What do I need to be considered?
Just some basic info.
We need all of the pertinent information described above, and we need a current accurate photo. You do not have to have a real "acting resume," but in addition to the vital statistics please mention any acting experience, especially television or film. Your photograph does not have to be a professional "actor's headshot" (although that is welcome), but it should accurately reflect the way you look. A "Glamour Shot" is probably not your best choice. If you look like a movie star in the photo but not in real life, then it is not a good photo to submit.

Case in point: Producing a series of regional commercials, we once called in an actress based on her photo. She drove more than 100 miles to audition, but when she arrived we instantly saw that her headshot was at least 15 years old. There was nothing wrong with her age, we might have easily cast her in another role... but she was not at all right for the part we were casting, so she was not considered. Your headshot should be "honest."

Photos and info may either be emailed or delivered by regular mail. Links to personal websites or MySpace/Facebook pages are not sufficient... we must receive actual attached photos. Materials will not be returned so please do not send originals. Please do not hand deliver photos to our office. Sorry, but we cannot accept phone calls regarding casting.
What kind of work is available?
We cast many types of roles for various types of projects.
Fantastic Plastic has produced literally thousands of television commercials (local, regional, and national) as well as many industrial films. Many of the higher-end local television commercials you see were produced by Fantastic Plastic. We cast a wide range of roles, from the principal on-camera speaker in a commercial, down to the extras in crowd scenes of industrial films.
I don't look like a model. Should I bother?
Certainly.
We are not casting fashion models, we are casting actors. Fantastic Plastic is an Equal Opportunity Employer, and all ages, shapes, and types can have something to offer.

We want real people. It is much more important to us that you be a good actor than it is to be drop-dead gorgeous or strikingly handsome. It is also important that you be reliable. We don't need any Lindsay Lohans. Showing up, reliably, on time and ready to work, is the first requirement.

Do I have to have an agent?
No.
We hire both represented and non-represented talent. If you are not represented by an agent, you are welcome to apply for casting opportunities. If you are represented by an agent under an exclusive arrangement, then you should not apply directly to us... your agent will do it for you. Direct applications to us are appropriate for talent who are willing to work with us directly, outside of representation arrangements.
Will I be paid?
Yes.
We are not currently involved in any amateur or community productions. All of our current projects are professional productions, and all talent is paid accordingly.

Do I need to be in a union?
No.
We hire both union as well as non-union talent. Alabama is a right-to-work state, and in accordance with the Labor-Management Relations Act of 1947 (the "Taft-Hartley" Act) non-union talent are eligible for employment even when one of our productions is a "union gig." However, if you are a current active member of one of the performers' unions (SAG and/or AFTRA), please let us know prior to casting. Union status will not affect your consideration for a part, it will simply let us be prepared for the necessary paperwork that is involved.

I can only work nights and weekends. Any opportunities?
Generally speaking, no.
In professional productions, the production company, advertising agencies, and clients generally work typical business weekday hours. There are exceptions (such as specific exterior scenes that require night shooting) but they are rare. We understand that there are few full-time "working actors" in our area and that most people do have other daily obligations, but if rigid work or school schedules leave you unavailable for any dayside/weekday shooting whatsoever, it would be unlikely that we have any opportunities available.

How will I know if I get the part?
Easy, we will contact you.
After we have received your materials, if we determine that you should be considered for a specific upcoming role we will contact you. This is why it is very important that we have all of your accurate contact info... daytime and nighttime phones, cell phones, email addresses and such.

After the audition, if you are selected for a role we will contact you promptly. Please remember that especially for larger and big-budget productions we may audition many people for each role, so unfortunately we are unable to alert the numerous actors who are not cast.

If you do not receive a part in the specific production for which you were auditioning, we keep all of your materials on file and you will be considered for the next appropriate role. New opportunities arise daily (we produce hundreds of projects each year), so often those not cast were simply not "right for the part," but may very well be for the next one that comes along.
